Hi-My husband watches you quite regularly. We both enjoy and learn from you. However your last rant about the police is by turns concerning and then on others reassuring. On several points however you missed the opportunity to possibly explore and expand the ideas you briefly touched on more. An example is the employer of the police. Much of their behavior is driven by employer mandates. You are quite correct that police officers of upright character are stepping away because they cannot become the kind of people their employer asks them to. There is now a heavy rotation of the “Go along to get along” mentality.
With regard to the issue of accountability, I perceive that you view God’s law functions like the laws of humans. I disagree. God’s ways are higher than ours and there is misunderstanding on OUR part. He isn’t the harsh authority or bloodthirsty deity who demands loyalty and appeasement that much of Christiandom teaches. God is able to understand the human experience in every facet because of Jesus and will generously apply this understanding to each of us until the rift between humans and Himself is healed and we are fully reconciled to him. This is not scary. So scaring people into the idea that they had better be prepared to give an account to God suggests that he is a harsh, angry God. He’s not.
I am sorry your experience with police officers has been dismal. Not all wish to have that kind of encounter with the public. I say this as a member of a family with police officers in it. Please do not typify and generalize. It is damaging. Allow each individual cop to be assessed individually and take into account the pressures of the employer and the social environment they work in. They aren’t whinging when they try to communicate the real, present and ongoing dangers and pressures they function under. They may be trying to offer a measure of transparency in relating these realities.
Be safe and well and don’t get sucked into your anger and mistrust so badly that you become a target. You and your beautiful family are much too precious for that.
